Traditional crafts and supply chains: Lessons from the Syrian silk craft

This paper uses a supply chain conceptual framework to examine the traditional Syrian silk industry and the interventions undertaken over the past 50 years by governmental, non-governmental, and international organizations aimed at its safeguarding or development. It argues that adopting a supply chain orientation is essential for the effective planning and implementation of interventions targeting traditional crafts, and that the absence of such an approach can be harmful.
